“How can I find the refills to my collectible 1940s Tiffany & Co bamboo ballpoint purse pen?” Collectors of fine writing instruments have been asking this for many years. The original refills are no longer made. Neither is the unusually-long spring that came with it.
We’ve come up with a creative solution that you will find workable….
Tiffany & Co Bamboo Sterling Silver 925 Ballpoint Pen
Tiffany & Co Bamboo 14k Gold Ballpoint Pen
Original Refill and Spring
Replacement Cartridge Refill and Spring Solution for the Tiffany & Co Bamboo Pen
To give new life to your Tiffany & Co Bamboo pen, you need to purchase three things:
- Short Ballpoint Pen Refill (select black or blue ink) Match existing refill and snip to size with scissors or diagonal pliers.
- BPS1 Spring
- Ballpoint Pen Refill Extender Kit You only need the green “connector” piece from this kit and not the “extender.”
After you snip the refill to the right length (see below), place the spring on the TOP portion of the refill. Then squeeze the green connector onto the end of the refill. This connector serves as what the flare on the original refill did… kind of like a spring-stopper. The spring rests against the green adapter piece and pushes off the threads of the grip section of the pen. The flanges on the refill itself don’t actually contact the spring in this case. If the flanges on the refill itself prevent the refill from sliding into the pen tubing, just sand them down with some sandpaper.
NOTE: As far as the length, I would snip down gradually. Match the length of the existing refill but maybe PLUS few millimeters. add the spring and green connector as described. Place in pen and see if it fits. If not, snip down a little more and keep doing this until you get it to fit correctly. Also, the green “connector” in this case is not really functioning as a connector but more as a “stopper” for the spring. So you might be able to cut that down to a smaller size as well. This is why it is hard to say exactly what the correct length for the refill should be because you have to play with it, combining the refill and the stopper.
